We are seeking an exceptionally motivated researcher/postdoc/visiting scholar to work on a Horserace Betting Levy Board funded project to develop deep learning algorithms that can assist fetlock fracture detection utilising multi-modality.
The overall aims of this project are (1) to collate a databank of cross-sectional and longitudinal pre-fracture, fracture and post-treatment images to facilitate fracture image learning, and (2) to develop machine learning algorithms that can assist fracture detection and localisation in fetlock diagnostic images utilising radiography only and multi-modality in a clinical setting.
The postdoc will manage the day-to-day running of the project, and work closely with a team comprises statistician, veterinary epidemiologist, specialists in veterinary diagnostic imaging and a medical images and computer vision deep-learning specialist . S/he will also
liaise with collaborators to retrieve data from hospital records as required to fulfill specific objectives of the research project.
Perform required image pre-processing and augmentations and develop start-of-the-art deep learning algorithms to accomplish fracture feature extraction, fracture detection and localisation, and results visualisation and interpretation.
Produce progress reports as required by the funding body and publish the results of the research in peer-reviewed journals.
Establish and maintain good relationships with stakeholders within the UK racing industry.
Follow Good Research Practice, Health and Safety and Ethics policies as applicable to the work.
This is a 3 year post, and the successful applicant will work closely with colleagues at the The Royal Veterinary College and the Queen Mary University of London.
